DC King of Qualifiers results and video

by Tim 2. September 2009 17:52

DC king of the streets series from PitCrewskateboards.com on Vimeo.

King of qualifiers, Hill Street skatepark, Frederick Maryland

The forecast was predicting thunderstorms for Saturdays King of qualifiers
but luckily the clouds broke and we had dry sunny weather throughout the
day.

The first part of the Hill Street contest was the last chance qualifier for
every one that showed up to participate in this King of Chicago qualifying
round. There was a fifteen minute jam and we cherry picked skaters from that
jam to participate in the qualifying round. Two skaters stood out, both from
Baltimore, Sean Powderly and Antonio Massey were Maryland rippers with no
shop sponsors. How kids so talented go un-sponsored is a mystery to me, but
I was joking with them during the  last chance qualifying round saying that
they either have no friends or have some serious personality flaws otherwise
they would have shop sponsors.

People came from as far as Pittsburgh and even one transplant from China now
residing in Delaware. It was amazing to see all the shops support for the
KOQ and this event brought together a diverse group of skateboarders that
don't usually shred with one another. The last chance qualifier Sean
Powderly qualified 1st  pretty much annihilated everything and looked like
he was going to win the whole thing but the finals were still to come.

As always the level of skateboarding was brought up a notch as the guys
threw down to win the all expenses paid trip to the King of Chicago. Alex
Vidal from Puerto Rico now residing in Maryland was skating so well it
looked like he might snatch victory or at least get on the podium. It wasn't
until the big hand rail section was over, when it was clear that Corey Huber
was the winner of this qualifier and on his way to Chicago. Congratulations
to our three winners:

1st Corey Huber
2nd Sean Powderly
3rd Austin "Boner" Malone

In true skate rat fashion, these guys were so stoked that they won entry
into the KOC that they had said they were willing to use the money for the
plane ticket to pay for gas so all three could come out on a road trip to
Chicago. It's really up to Corey because a plane ride is allot quicker than
the 10+ hour drive from  Frederick Maryland to Chicago.

Thanks Pitcrew for hosting this qualifier and supporting the
series.

Thanks to John Kramer (DC) and Ben Jones (Kinetic), Dustin Giles (Blackhole
